Choosing Sallad for a Modern Web Design Project
I was working on a redesign for a boutique online store selling handcrafted stationery and personalized gifts. The goal was to create a brand experience that felt both professional and warm, something that would resonate with creative customers who valued unique design. As I explored typography options, I came across Sallad, a handwritten font from Script Amp that immediately caught my eye.
Sallad has a playful yet elegant feel, with soft curves and subtle variations in stroke weight that give it a natural, human touch. It’s not overly ornate or difficult to read, which made me think it could work well as a display font for key elements like headlines and call-to-action buttons. Its quirky personality matched the brand's voice perfectly—creative, approachable, and slightly whimsical.
Testing Sallad in a Hero Section
I decided to test Sallad in the hero section of the homepage. The original design used a clean sans-serif font for the headline, but I wanted something more distinctive. I replaced the main title with Sallad and saw an immediate difference. The font added character without overwhelming the design. It worked especially well when paired with a high-quality image of a beautifully crafted notebook or pen.
On mobile screens, I made sure to adjust the font size so it remained legible. Sallad is a bit more detailed than some script fonts, so I kept it at a larger size for headers and used a simpler sans-serif for body text. This helped maintain readability while preserving the visual appeal of the design.
Using Sallad Across Different Elements
Sallad proved to be versatile enough to use in multiple areas of the site. For example, I used it in the navigation bar for section headings, giving the layout a cohesive look. In the product detail pages, I applied it to short phrases like “Handmade with Care” or “Limited Edition,” which added a personal touch.
In the checkout area, I avoided using Sallad for form labels or buttons to ensure clarity and usability. However, I used it for promotional banners and special offers, where its decorative nature enhanced the visual hierarchy and drew attention to important messages.
The font also worked well in email templates and social media graphics, where it brought a sense of creativity and authenticity to branded content. I found that it complemented other design elements like illustrations, icons, and photography, creating a balanced and engaging visual identity.
Readability and Brand Consistency
One of the biggest concerns when using a script font is readability. I tested Sallad across different screen sizes and backgrounds to make sure it remained legible. On dark backgrounds, I used a light color with good contrast, and on light backgrounds, I opted for a darker shade. This helped maintain visibility without sacrificing the font’s charm.
For longer blocks of text, I relied on a complementary sans-serif font, such as Lato or Open Sans, to ensure that the content remained easy to scan and digest. This font pairing strategy created a modern, polished look while keeping the overall design user-friendly.
Consistency was another factor I considered. I made sure to use Sallad only in specific areas—like headlines, logos, and accents—to avoid overusing it. This helped reinforce the brand’s visual language without making the design feel cluttered or confusing.
Font Pairing and Design Assets
When choosing Sallad, I checked the available styles and weights to see if they offered enough flexibility for different uses. The font included several alternates, which allowed me to customize certain characters for a more refined look. I also confirmed that it was available as a webfont, which made it easy to implement on the site without any performance issues.
Since the project involved multiple digital assets—like landing pages, blog posts, and promotional materials—I needed a font that could scale across different formats. Sallad fit the bill, and its multilingual support ensured that it could be used globally without any issues.
Before finalizing the choice, I made sure to review the commercial licensing terms to confirm that it was suitable for use in an online store. Once everything was in place, I integrated Sallad into the design system and shared it with the client for feedback. They loved how it elevated the brand’s aesthetic and made the site feel more personal and inviting.
Overall, Sallad turned out to be a great addition to the project. It helped create a strong visual identity that aligned with the brand’s values and resonated with the target audience. Whether you're designing a portfolio, a course page, or a campaign landing page, Sallad can add a unique flair that sets your digital presence apart.
